Bio

Daniel Reiser was born and raised in the small-but-mighty Jewish community of Tallahassee, FL. As one of only four Jewish students in his school, Daniel grew up with a keen sense that being Jewish made him unique. In the summers, he attended URJ Camp Coleman -- a Jewish sleep-away camp in the rolling hills of north Georgia -- where being Jewish didn’t make him unique, it allowed him to fit in. Daniel earned a B.A. in English from the University of Florida (UF) with a minor in Jewish studies. During his time at UF, Daniel spent a semester abroad in Prague, studying Jewish history and literature of East-Central Europe. After college, Daniel served for three years as Program Director for Hillel at Emory University.

He began his rabbinical studies at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in the Summer of 2011 -- where he developed a passion for Tanakh/Hebrew Bible (his favorite book of the Bible is Jonah) and modern Jewish thought (he wrote his rabbinical thesis on Arthur Green). He has served as student rabbi at the Jewish Community Center of Laramie, WY; Temple Shaaray Tefila (Manhattan); Kolot Chayeinu/Voices of our Lives (Brooklyn); and elsewhere. He was ordained a rabbi by the New York campus of HUC-JIR in May 2016.

Daniel is the Rabbi of Temple Beth Shalom in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. He previously served for six years as an Assistant/Associate Rabbi at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, NY. He also currently serves on the Editorial Board of the CCAR Journal: The Reform Jewish Quarterly, as a CCAR Rabbinic Mentor for soon-to-be- and newly-ordained rabbis, as well as on the Leadership Council of the Tisch Fellowship Alumni Network.

Daniel is married to Leah, and they are the proud parents of two daughters.
